Chinese Town Gets 3D Printed Bridge Railings

Posted Date 08/29/17

The Chinese city of Nanjing is the proud home of the first 3D printed bridge railings in the country – a project that took just 15 days, while conventional manufacturing would have taken a month. The railings were produced by an industrial 3D printer developed for large-scale projects including the construction of houses. Besides faster, 3D printing the railings was also cheaper, according to the chairman of the company responsible for the project, Nanjing Jia Yi Precision Instrument Manufacturing Company. In fat, it cost just about $7,490 and $8,990 to build the railings, which is half as much as they would have cost to manufacture with a conventional method.
